The Evidence/Property Room acts as the depository for all evidence and property recovered by Deputies in the jurisdiction of the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office. The Evidence Technician maintains and ensures the accurate collection, storage and return of property in the designated categories.

Property/Evidence Release

The best way to avoid any unnecessary delays in obtaining your property is to contact Evidence Technician Elisa Garcia and request an appointment or information. Appointments are strongly recommended to avoid delays or extended waiting. Please call at least one day in advance to schedule your appointment so you can receive your service promptly. Appointments for property release can be made for Monday through Thursday during normal business hours.  No property release will be done on Friday or the weekends. Requirements for Conducting Business

Persons attempting the release of property in the custody of the Sheriff’s Office must present picture identification such as a California Drivers License or California Identification Card.

Firearms will only be released in accordance with the California DOJ procedures and documentation. Valid DOJ documentation must be presented to obtain any firearms.

Those attempting to gain the release of property for a friend or relative must also present picture identification as well as valid written authorization from the property owner. 

Under no circumstances will telephone authorization be accepted for the release of any property.

Property/Evidence Categories

  • Found property
  • Recovered stolen property
  • Items held for safekeeping
  • Inmate/arrestee personal property
  • Property received from coroner cases not released at the scene
  • Property received from public administrator cases
  • Prepare unclaimed property for auction
