
Captain Jason Piazza was hired by Sutter County Sheriff’s Office in February of 2020. Captain Piazza has lived in south Butte County since 1993. He is married and has two adult daughters. He enjoys spending time traveling with his family, attending church, doing community service and an array of hobbies.
Captain Piazza started out in law enforcement in 1995 as a Reserve Police Officer with Gridley Police Department. He was hired by Butte County Sheriff’s Office as a Correctional Officer in 1996. In 1999, he attended the Butte Police Academy and was hired as a Deputy Sheriff with Butte County Sheriff’s Office. He worked on patrol, in the courts, and the narcotics task force. He has worked as a field training officer, crime scene investigator, bailiff, and detective. Captain Piazza left Butte County Sheriff’s Office as an Administrative Sergeant to accept employment with the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office.
His first assignment at Sutter County Sheriff’s Office was Jail Commander. Captain Piazza enjoyed the overseeing the jail division, getting to know the people, assisting in positive change, and the many challenges, one of which was the Covid-19 pandemic. Captain Piazza transitioned to being the Operation Commander in November of 2022. He now oversees patrol operations in the main office and the contract city of Live Oak. He also manages the Investigations and Coroner office, and the evidence department.
Captain Piazza has an Associate of Arts in Liberal Studies and a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice Management. He is currently studying for a master’s degree in Business Administration.
