Reserve Patrol DeputiesSutter County Sheriff Reserve Patrol Deputies hail from all walks of life and our volunteers also enjoy successful full time careers. Still, Reserve Deputies take pride assisting the office in all aspects of law enforcement duties throughout the community. Becoming a Reserve Deputy maintains the California P.O.S.T. status, thus an earned P.O.S.T. degree will maintain and not expire. Reserve deputies are volunteers. Pay is commensurate with level status – Level I is $26.97 per hour, Level II is $15.00 per hour. Association membership is available at approximately $30.00 per quarter and includes CRPOA membership with accompanying coverage. One membership meeting per month and one training class per month are mandatory.

Duties

A Reserve Deputy's primary duty is to assist the regular beat deputies in the various aspects of law enforcement. Some of those duties are answering calls for service, report writing, traffic enforcement, community events, and other law enforcement duties. After completing Field Training, Level I Reserve Deputies operate as solo units assisting the Patrol Division.

Training

Reserve Patrol Deputies receive the same training and maintain the same updates as the regular deputies. Training is required by the state and our office. We are certified in First Aid/CPR, weaponless defense, criminal law/legal updates. All deputies are certified with handguns, Tasers and patrol rifles. Reserves my also receive training in narcotics drug abuse recognition or traffic accidents.

Community Events

Reserve deputies also participate along with regular deputies at the Peach Festival, National Night Out, Sikh Parade and 4th of July. Fund raising community events such as the Easter Egg Hunt or Crab Feed are generally annual events put on by the Reserve Deputy Association. Any funds generated by the association are used for training or returned to the community via charitable organizations for families in need.

Boating Safety Unit

Through a state grant, the Sutter County Sheriff's Office is authorized to use Reserve Deputies for the Boating Safety Unit. These positions assist the Boat Deputies on various waterways throughout Sutter County and provide education to the public on boating safety and waterways. Boat Patrol Reserves maintain the same training and meeting requirements. They also assist in other duties as assigned.
