Sheriff Brandon Barnes is a California native having grown up in Lincoln California. Sheriff Barnes joined the Napa Valley Police Academy in 1994 and began his law enforcement career with the Yuba County Sheriff’s Department in 1995. As a long time, Sutter County resident, Sheriff Barnes ran for the Office of Sheriff in Sutter County and took office in January of this year. Sheriff Barnes is a graduate of the F.B.I National Academy as well as the P.O.S.T. Command College leadership program. Sheriff Barnes is a graduate of Union Institute with a degree in Police Administration.

Sheriff Barnes has worked a wide variety of assignments during his career, including being a Field Training Officer, detective, SWAT Commander, Chief of Investigations, Lieutenant in charge of Patrol Operations and Jail Commander.

Sheriff Barnes is a long time Live Oak resident and enjoys spending time with his adult two children and three grandchildren.  Sheriff Barnes is a member of Kiwanis and dedicates a fair amount of his time to giving back to our communities.
